Heating the pool water for constant use

9 December 2023Closure with cover or closure without cover: all the advice from Teknopiscine
Summer is already long over, but the temperatures in these weeks of October seem like an extension of the good season. And the forecast says that there will be mild temperatures even until Christmas.
The climate is changing: shorter and milder winters and longer summers characterised by strong heat waves. This means that the period in which it will be possible to use the swimming pool and take a bath even in the ‘mid-season’ will increase in the coming years.
But what to do when it becomes necessary to close the pool in order to protect it and avoid any damage?
Teknopiscine designs and builds swimming pools in Apulia, and thanks to a team of specialised technicians provides preliminary advice on the ideal solution tailored to the customer. The Teknopiscine service guarantees a punctual customer assistance service that also takes care of pool opening and closing operations.
You can decide to leave the pool uncovered or cover it with a cover. In both cases, certain treatments will have to be carried out.
Closing the pool without a cover
- leave the filtration system on;
- continue treatments to maintain correct chlorine and pH levels in the water;
- prevent or eliminate algae;
- use antifreeze products if temperatures drop;
- clean the water surface and the area around the pool more often of any windblown leaves.
Pool enclosure with cover
Deciding to close the pool without an enclosure has a cost due to the continuous treatment of the water and also requires more manual cleaning.
The alternative is to purchase an enclosure, the cost of which is amortised over the years. In this way, the pool and all its components remain better protected and safer.
Winter covers are lightweight, water- and frost-resistant, and tear-proof and anti-ultraviolet sunlight resistant covers. They are fitted at the end of the season to protect the water from debris, rainwater and algae growth. Winter enclosures are perfect for private individuals and accommodation facilities that use the pool only in summer: hotels, villas, campsites, b&b’s, farmhouses.
The treatment that is carried out before winter to close the pool is called winterization and allows the pool to be thoroughly cleaned before closing it.
Pool closure with winterization
Winterizing is an operation that must be carried out when the water temperature falls below 12°, in order to prevent algae growth in the pool:
- clean the bottom, walls and waterline with a cleaner;
- clean the filter;
- clean the skimmers thoroughly;
- analyse the water to check the chlorine level and adjust the pH value.
